Stones chosen first, settings drawn around them

Most jewellery is designed and then fitted with whatever stone matches the drawing. We work the other way round, which is slower and produces rings that look like the stone was always meant to be there.

Every piece leaves this bench under one pair of hands, from wax to final polish.

There are four of us. Nothing is sent out for setting, nothing is finished by a subcontractor, and the person who casts a ring is the person who sets it.

Commissions

Where a commission actually begins

Not with a drawing. With a conversation about how the ring will be worn, by which hand, next to what else, and what the budget is — because budget decides the stone, and the stone decides the design.

  • First conversation One hour, atelier or video
  • Drawings Hand sketch then CAD, two revisions
  • Stone viewing Loose, in daylight, before commitment
  • Bench time Four weeks, not compressible
How commissioning works
Coloured stones

Spinel, moonstone and the tones that never photograph well

Grey spinel, blue-sheen moonstone and peach sapphire look ordinary on a screen and extraordinary on a hand. These are the stones we ask people to come and see.

The bench

Four weeks of hand work behind every commission

Casting takes a day. What takes four weeks is everything after it: cleaning up the cast, cutting seats for each stone individually, setting under magnification, and finishing a surface that will be looked at closely for the next fifty years.

  • Setting By hand, under magnification
  • Seats Cut individually, never pre-made
  • Finishing Hand polish or hand-worked sand finish
  • Hallmarking Belgian assay, on every piece
